Viasat Voice

Q: Can I use VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) with Viasat internet service?

A: Yes. In fact Viasat offers Viasat Voice home phone service, which is optimized specifically for your Viasat satellite network and includes unlimited local & long-distance calls in both the U.S. and Canada. If you already have VoIP service with another provider, typically other VoIP services work fine with Viasat internet, but you’ll likely enjoy better quality with Viasat Voice home phone service.

Plus, with Viasat Voice, your calls don’t count toward your monthly data allowance. And when you bundle Viasat Voice with your Viasat internet services, you will get $10 off your monthly Viasat bill for the first six months. See the Viasat VoIP Voice page for more information & pricing.

Q: Do I need Viasat internet service to use Viasat Voice?

A: Yes. It is not a stand alone service. Our Viasat Voice home phone uses Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and was specifically designed to be used with our internet network. All Viasat modems have a phone adapter, so you can add Viasat Voice at any time.

Q: How Does Viasat Voice Work?

A: Viasat Voice uses your existing Viasat internet modem to place calls over our communications satellite. This method is accomplished by using “Voice over Internet Protocol” (VoIP) services, which have been specifically optimized for the Viasat satellite network. It’s also the only VoIP service where calls don’t count against your internet monthly data allowance. Your phone signal will use the internet to send and receive local and long distance calls to any of the 50 states and Canada. Since Viasat Voice has been specially designed for the Viasat network, your usage doesn’t count against your data allowance!

Getting started with Viasat Voice is as simple as connecting your phone or base station to the Viasat WiFi Gateway Modem with a phone cord.

Q: Does Viasat Voice work like a regular phone line?

A: It sure does! And Viasat Voice, has many great features including free local & long distance calling to all 50 states, plus Canada, voicemail, call waiting, caller ID and many other popular phone features. You have the option of transferring your current phone number (in most cases) or requesting a new number. A more affordable option than traditional landline phone service, use of Viasat Voice does not count towards your Viasat monthly data usage. Better yet, Viasat Voice, is optimized to work with your Viasat network, unlike other VoIP services.

Q: What happens when the power goes out or my internet connection goes down?

A: Viasat Voice relies on your Viasat internet connection to place and receive phone calls. When you lose connectivity, you lose the ability to make or receive phone calls.

Q: Is a phone included with the Viasat Voice service?

A: No. You can use any regular phone with your Viasat Voice service. Simply connect your phone or base station to the Viasat WiFi Gateway Modem with a standard phone cord. While we don’t recommend any specific brand/model of phone, we’ve found most wireless phone base stations work very well with Viasat Voice.

Q: What calling features does Viasat Voice offer?

A: Viasat Voice includes Voicemail, Caller ID, Caller ID Block, Call Hold, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, Call Return and Disable Call Waiting features.

Q: Will Viasat work with my cell phone?

A: Yes. Viasat Voice was designed to work alongside your smartphones. You can connect multiple cellphones to your Viasat Voice, and let one number do it all. You can also forward calls to your smartphone(s), block or send calls directly to voicemail and send voicemail to your smartphone’s email for easy access. Plus with Viasat Voice’s Find Me, Follow Me Forwarding feature, you will never miss a call AGAIN!

Q: How is Viasat Voice installed?

A: Viasat Voice setup is QUICK & EASY! Your Viasat technician will provide a Viasat Voice adapter that you will connect to your Viasat WiFi Gateway Modem and any home phone.
